Islington….heritage site re-energized via stylish renovation

Location: London. Size: 25,000sq.ft

The driving design force with the Islington site was the rejuvenation and development of a valuable yet neglected site (a Georgian period former village bank) overlooking the affluent area of Islington green.

At the heart of the design strategy was the resuscitation the hugely proud building whose massively untapped potential had been dented by the unflattering and incongruous architectural additions of an adjacent 1970’s market canopy (camouflaging more than half the façade) and a single story post war building adjoined to crucial parts of the building.

By stripping away the superfluous additions, which had incrementally changed the flavour of the site, d_raw took the site back to its grandiose basics, allowing the original fittings and structure to breathe once more. The rest was a process of tactful modernization via interior styling, translating the original beauty into a modern context.
