d­­­­_raw’s re-modelling of a compact coach house in the heart of London is an exemplary piece of sensitive innovation, transforming a dark, traditionally proportioned building into a light, spacious, very contemporary vision of open plan living. Built across three floors the 2400sqft of renovated mews home now boasts a brand new courtyard (courtesy of the designers dispensing with a rear wall), a hugely elevated ceiling in the master bedroom created by opening up the unused loft space and a neat set of snugly fitting sliding panels in exchange for the original dividing walls to create a uniquely flexible space. The base textures of the original skeleton have been lovingly exposed while poured concrete and Scandinavian oak are used throughout to complete a sense of unity and complement the charm of the original architecture. Integrated roof vents send shafts of natural daylight onto the enclosed stairwell adding a subtle finish to what is now a luxuriously spacious yet intimate modern home.
